Laptop News : Disabled will get specially designed laptops for free

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has announced provision of free laptops to disabled students receiving higher education. He said these laptops had been designed specially for disabled persons, which will aid them in acquiring modern education.

The CM gave directions to commissioners with regards to evolving a procedure for distribution of laptops among disabled students within seven days.

He said this while presiding over a meeting at Arfa Software Technology Park on Friday.

Shahbaz also ordered laptops for 22 students of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) who were not provided laptops under the scheme launched by the Punjab government.

He said that Special Assistant on Higher Education Zaeem Qadri and Higher Education secretary should visit all districts of the province so that the problems being faced by the students regarding provision of laptops could immediately be resolved.

He further directed the commissioners to dispose of all necessary matters relating to distribution of laptops to educational institutions in their respective divisions within a week and submit a report in this regard.

The CM said that students were being given laptops in recognition of their hard work and talent, adding that the Punjab government will continue such schemes in order to facilitate and encourage talented students.

He urged the students to devote their energies to acquiring knowledge and take full advantage of educational schemes such as the laptop scheme initiated by the provincial government.

Provincial Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Special Assistant on Higher Education Zaeem Qadri, Planning and Development chairman, Higher Education secretary, Punjab Information Technology Board chairman, Lahore commissioner, Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi and 22 students of LCWU attended the meeting.

The students while praising the CM for initiating the laptop scheme said the facility would help them keep in touch with the modern world and latest knowledge.

Separately, while talking to a 45-member delegation of print and electronic media of Sindh led by Sukkur Press Club President Lala Asad Pathan on Friday, the CM said that prosperity of the country depended upon prosperity of all the four provinces as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. He said that joys and sorrows of the people living in different places were common. He said the country could be put on the road to progress and transformed into an Islamic welfare state in the real sense only through promotion of national solidarity and an atmosphere of unity and brotherhood.

Shahbaz said that loot and corruption was rampant in the country and corruption was the root cause of poverty. He said there was a need to root out corruption and utilise resources for the welfare and betterment of the masses. He added that “new elections” were solution of country’s problems. He said that immediate steps were needed to remove the sense of deprivation among Balochs and there was a need to move in this direction with commitment, tolerance and sincerity.

MNA Pervaiz Malik, Adviser on Education Zaeem Hussain Qadri and MPA Dr Asad Ashraf were also present on the occasion.

The CM said that Sindh was the land of Sufi saints and it had played an important role in the struggle for creation of Pakistan. He welcomed the delegation of Sindhi brethren in Lahore and said that such visits were of vital importance for the promotion of inter-provincial harmony. He said that National Finance Commission Award was approved unanimously last year, displaying a spirit of sacrifice by the leadership at federal and provincial levels and in order to promote cohesion and amity between the provinces. Punjab surrendered its share of 11 billion rupees and the same spirit had to be displayed for the solution of other problems.

Lala Asad Pathan appreciated the CM for taking public welfare initiatives. He also extended invitation to the CM to visit Sukkar, which he accepted.
